Steak and French Fry-Stir Fry

Okay… this is my take on Food & Wine’s Peruvian Steak and Potato Stir-Fry. I don’t feel like I can call my version of this recipe “Peruvian” when I’ve made my tweaks.  I have been carrying this recipe around saved up in Evernote just waiting for a opportunity to make it.  Metropolitan Market had New York Steaks on sale… I couldn’t resist – here’s my chance… BUT...

Prosciutto wrapped Prawns

We met with friends the other night for a Merlot tasting party. The main dish was grilled salmon and I was tasked with bringing an appetizer. I decided to bring prosciutto wrapped prawns. It was a beautiful hot summer evening and I wanted something that was quick, easy and would compliment the wine and our dinner. I’ve made this recipe by wrapping prosciutto, pancetta or even thinly sliced bacon – it’s all good!  I was...

Appetizers to pair with Cabernet Sauvignon

Last night, we had dinner with a group of friends for a "blind" wine tasting of cabs. Everyone brought wine, which was later "bagged and tagged" for the tasting, and a dish.  My dish assignment: appetizers. And since the main dish was a delishous prime rib, beef was out of the question for my dish.  I would up deciding two bring two dishes…in hindsight, for our group of eight, just one of these appetizers...

Are You a Rose Snob?

I was recently invited to a friends house for a wine tasting party where the theme was independent wine makers.  Since it was a gorgeous sunny day in Seattle, I decided to bring a chilled Rosefrom West Seattle's own Chris Gorman of Gorman Winery.   I paired it with bite sized pieces of cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto.  It was a perfect pairing for summer — I recommend you try it! What surprised me is that...

Not Your Mom’s Rose!

Truth be told, I'm not a huge Rose fan..I enjoyed tasting this wine from Gorman Winery in Woodinville.  I'm looking forward sipping this during some warm weather!  When I do uncork this, I'll update this post with a review…if we're waiting for warm weather…it could be a...

A New Favorite “Deck” Wine: Famega Vinho Verde

I'm calling this a "deck wine" because it's one I'm planning to enjoy more of on a sunny day on our deck.  This wine is around $15 and I picked this up at the West Seattle Metropolitan Market.   It's the first time I've had a Vinho Verde, which I bought to go with our clams cataplana the other day.  I think this would also go great with oysters and other fish or seafood. This wine is...

My Current Favorite “Drinker”

I'm really impressed with Schild Estate's 2007 Shiraz from Barossa Valley…and it's only $15.99 at Costco in Seattle right now!  For how elegant this wine drinks, I wouldn't guess it's under $20.  Wine Spectator rates this bottle 92 points, which I feel is pretty fair…I would probably score this closer to a 90-91. What are your favorite wines under $20 that are drinking well...

Hi-Brow Chardonnay-Butt Chicken on the Big Green Egg

Kind of funny to say hi-brow and butt in the same title…this is a different version than the ever popular "beer butt" chicken.   I've made this dish w/beer or wine.  It just depends on what's available in the fridge. I have the Big Green Egg at 200 degrees with some soaked applewood chips.  The inverter is on (legs up) with the grill on top of that. Fill ceramic stands with chardonnay about 3/4...
